Have an idea for a 2021 Planning Commissioners Academy session? Submit it today!

January 15, 2021
Did you know that over 95 percent of the League of California Cities’ educational programming comes directly from our open calls for proposals?

Cal Cities is now seeking session proposals for the 2021 Planning Commissioners Academy. Share best practices and innovative approaches to current issues city planning commissioners face during a session at the academy.

The academy offers a fundamentals track for new commissioners and those wanting a refresher course, as well as an emerging issues track, to include innovative solutions for current challenges that California city planners and planning commissioners face.

Cal Cities is seeking thorough, thoughtful, and complete proposals describing how a proposed session would help planning commissioners improve their communities, leadership abilities, and knowledge within their roles. Submissions, non-commercial in nature, from any individual, group, business, or organization on any relevant topic are welcome. The program planning advisory committee will consider the educational value of each proposal and the extent to which it presents new and/or significant information.

Sessions may not include sales, commercialism, or product promotion of any kind. Session proposals must be submitted through an online proposal form by Thursday, Jan. 21 to be considered for the academy. Please note there is a word limit for the proposal title and description, therefore it is recommended to draft the proposal first in a word-processing program and paste the final version into the online form.

The academy is currently scheduled to take place March 24-26, 2021 at the Hyatt Regency Orange County, but Cal Cities will continue to monitor the response to COVID-19 and public health recommendations relating to mass gatherings. We will continue to follow state and local health guidelines and are considering options to move programming to a virtual platform if necessary. As a result, meeting dates may shift slightly.

Visit the Cal Cities website for more information regarding the proposal process.
