Hundreds of City Officials in Sacramento this week for Training and Policy Committee Meetings

January 21, 2020
The League of California Cities will welcome more than 400 California city officials to Sacramento this week for newly elected officials training, policy committee meetings, and meetings with legislative leadership.

The New Mayors and Council Members Academy, Jan. 22–24, will bring together newly elected city officials from across the state and provide a toolkit of skills to govern effectively, plan for their city’s future, manage funds, and foster community and staff relationships. Sessions will focus on governance, municipal finance, land use policy, advocacy on city issues, and communications and civic engagement.

The League’s seven policy committees will also be in Sacramento holding their first meetings of the year. In these meetings, committee members, who are local officials from every corner of the state, will discuss key policy issues affecting California communities and make recommendations to the League board of directors on policy positions, which will serve as the foundation for the League’s advocacy efforts at the Capitol.

This year, a wide range of topics will be on the committees’ agendas, including public safety, pension sustainability, disaster planning and preparedness, housing, and homelessness.
