Week two of 2021 New Mayors and Council Members Academy starts tomorrow!

There's still time to register! New mayors and council members have a tremendous opportunity to learn the ropes of elected office and connect with peers during four days of educational sessions at the virtual League of California Cities 2021 New Mayors and Council Members Academy, Jan. 21–22 and Jan. 28–29, 2021. 
 
This virtual conference is a must attend for newly elected officials and seasoned mayors and council members who would like a refresher course on the basic legal and practical framework in which city officials operate. 
 
New Mayors and Council Members Academy session topics
Delve into critical training on important, fundamental topics for local government taught by peers and subject matter experts on topics such as: 
  • Relationships between city council and city management
  • Effective advocacy and key city issues
  • Diversity and inclusion
  • Policy role in land use planning
  • Communications and civic engagement
  • Financial responsibilities
  • How to conduct an effective and respectful council meeting
  • And more to be announced!
Academy schedule
The academy runs 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Jan. 21 and 28; and runs 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. on Fridays, Jan. 22 and 23. For the most up-to-date conference schedule, visit the academy webpage.

In addition to access to all live sessions, session materials, and virtual peer-to-peer opportunities, registering for the conference grants you access to all session recordings for later viewing for a limited time. Registration for League Members starts at $250!
Registration includes admission to all sessions and networking opportunities, as well as access to all program materials and session recordings.

Virtual platform
The conference will take place via Zoom. A computer or laptop is recommended to best experience the sessions. A login and password will be provided the week of the conference to access the conference page and links to all the sessions.
