City Attorneys’ Department Mourns Loss of Longtime Member and Beloved Colleague, Burk “Buck” Delventhal

November 4, 2019
The League’s City Attorneys’ Department is mourning the loss of a longtime member and beloved colleague – Burk “Buck” Delventhal. San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera issued a statement on Buck’s passing on Oct. 26, 2019.

The sentiments in Herrera’s statement have been echoed by countless members of the City Attorneys’ Department since Buck’s passing. Buck was a frequent contributor to the department for nearly 40 years, and was well-known for his brilliant legal mind and willingness to share his wisdom and friendship.

Buck served on a myriad of department committees, including the Legal Advocacy Committee, through which he made valued connections to city attorney colleagues throughout California and contributed immensely to the League’s legal education and advocacy efforts.

Buck’s contributions will undoubtedly continue to educate, encourage, and inspire generations of city attorneys to come, but his presence will be sorely missed by his department colleagues.

A celebration of Buck’s life, which is open to the public, will be held in the San Francisco City Hall Rotunda on Dec. 3 at 11 a.m.
