Come to Sacramento on April 18 to Advocate for City Priorities

April 10 Preview Webinar Scheduled

April 5, 2018
Hundreds of city officials will be traveling to Sacramento to lobby their senators and Assembly members on bills affecting California cities as part of the League’s April 18 Legislative Action Day
Pre-registration for this free event remains open until April 13 and there is still time to plan this educational and advocacy day and set up meetings with your legislators.
The annual Legislative Action Day is an opportunity to sit down with legislators and their staff in the Capitol and discuss the most pressing issues for California cities. The day begins with briefings from League staff and legislative leaders on priority legislation, the state budget and ballot measures. The middle of the day is reserved for meetings in the Capitol. The formal schedule concludes with a legislative panel discussion on addressing housing and homelessness hosted by the League’s five diversity caucuses.
Confirmed speakers include:
  • Senate pro Tem Toni Atkins (D-San Diego);
  • Assembly Member Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters), chair of the Assembly Local Government Committee;
  • Senate Majority Leader Pat Bates (R-Laguna Niguel);
  • Sen. Jim Beall (D-San Jose), chair of the Senate Transportation and Housing Committee;
  • Assembly Member David Chiu (D-San Francisco), chair of the Assembly Housing Committee;
  • Assembly Member Mike Bloom (D-Santa Monica); and
  • Sen. Mike McGuire (D-Healdsburg).
Registration is free for League members and Partners. The cost is $250 for non-member city staff and officials and other companies/organizations.
Contact Megan Dunn with registration questions.
Contact your regional public affairs manager to arrange meetings in the Capitol with your legislators and their staff.
Legislative Action Day coincides with the 2nd Annual Capitol Cup Soccer Match, a friendly soccer match (Dems vs. Reps) benefitting two local nonprofits: the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services and Weave. Tickets are only $25 and include the 5 p.m. game, 6:15 p.m. reception with legislators, and 7:30 p.m. match between Sacramento Republic FC and the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. Game tickets and transportation are not included in Legislative Action Day.
Prepare for Legislative Action Day by Participating in the April 10 Preview Webinar
