Aug. 23 Annual Conference Registration Deadline Fast Approaching

Attendees may want to begin planning their conference schedule now to make sure they can participate in all the sessions and additional opportunities. The League’s Annual Conference webpage has information on speakers, sessions and more.
Here is some information about some extra programming included in the conference.
City Clerks Workshop: The Public Records Act: Past, Present, and Future
Over the last few years, stories about private servers, personal devices, social media use and public records have dominated the news headlines nationally and locally. From former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton’s use of a private server to current Vice-President Mike Pence’s use of a personal email account, the electronic conduct of the people’s business is being closely monitored and scrutinized. Most recently in California, in City of San Jose v. Superior Court (2017), the Court held among other things that records held on personal accounts and personal devices may also be subject to disclosure. This workshop explores the historical and social foundations of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and the California Public Records Act (CPRA), explains modern day best practices, procedures and policies in light of the recent San Jose case, and identifies future trends to track in the public records realm.
Please note that Additional registration $150 per attendee of a member city/$300 per attendee of a non-member city. (Department business meeting 8:30 – 9 a.m. and a four-hour workshop).
Accredited for one CMC/MMC Advanced Education point.

First time attendees to this conference should plan to attend an orientation on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 12:45 p.m. This session is presented by the League’s Leadership and covers how to get the most out of your first Annual Conference experience.
