2014 Planning Commissioner Academy Sneak Peek – Which Track Are You On?

The 2014 Planning Commissioners Academy is scheduled for March 26–28 at the Marriott San Francisco Airport Waterfront Hotel and offers planning commissioners, planning directors, planning staff, and other interested officials the opportunity to learn about the major planning and land use issues facing cities.
The academy provides a fundamentals/basic track for new commissioners, as well a brand new advanced planning commissioner’s track. 
See a few of the most anticipated sessions:
New Planning Commissioners Track — Essential Planning Tools 101
Are you a new planning commissioner, or need a refresher? Receive an overview of the basic topics that a planning commissioner needs to know when reviewing planning documents and land use cases.  Some basics that will be covered are making findings to support your decisions, conditions of approval, effective use of design guidelines, design standards plus much more.
Advanced Planning Staff and Commissioners Track — Marijuana Dispensaries, Sober Living Facilities and Massage Establishments: Overview of the Problems and What Cities are Doing
This session will go over the issues surrounding these three areas of concern for planners and discuss past legislative bills as well as likely future attempts at revising existing laws. This session also includes a panel of city representatives and what they have done to address these issues.
