Hundreds of City Officials Set to Descend Sacramento on Wednesday for Legislative Action Day

The League is preparing for a busy week in Sacramento with a number of key bills up in legislative policy committees and the organization’s annual Legislative Action Day.
This one-day event is designed for city officials hear directly from the League’s officers, lobbyists and key legislators about pressing policy issues and meet with the legislators and their staff in their Capitol offices.

The opening general session will cover current budget issues, new tools for economic development, massage therapy regulations, medical marijuana, transportation and infrastructure funding and other bills pertaining to local control. Speaker-Elect Toni Atkins (D-San Diego) will also address the assembled city officials.
Attendees are encouraged to schedule meetings with their legislators before the afternoon session and evening reception. Most of the activities will occur at the Sacramento Convention Center. A full schedule is below. 
9:00 – 10:00 a.m.: Registration, Sacramento Convention Center
10:00 – 11:30 a.m.: General Session, Sacramento Convention Center, Room 202

  • Assembly Speaker-Elect Toni G. Atkins
    • Speaker-elect Atkins will discuss her priorities as the incoming speaker regarding redevelopment dissolution issues, local economic development and housing, as well as rebuilding and strengthening city-legislative relations.                                      
11:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.: Lunch on your own and Meetings in the Capitol
4:00 – 4:45 p.m.: Legislative Forum Discussion, Sacramento Convention Center, Room 202

  • Water Bond Update by Assembly Member Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood)
