SB 379 would require cities to address climate-resiliency strategies in the safety element of their General Plans, when next they revisit their local hazard mitigation plan on or after January 1, 2017, or if they do not have an adopted local hazard mitigation plan, beginning January 1, 2022. Under SB 379, the update would need to include goals, policies, and objectives based upon an assessment of the risks that climate change poses to the jurisdiction.
