AB 1147 Call to Action
League of California Cities-supported AB 1147 (Bonilla) would completely revise and recast the law regulating massage therapy in California and fix the unintended consequences of SB 731 (2008). City officials are urged to contact members of the committee to voice their support for the Massage Therapy Act of 2014 to give tools to local governments to address establishments that masquerade as massage businesses but in reality deal in illicit activities and human trafficking.

Assemblymember Bonilla Unveils Massage Therapy Act of 2014
(Sacramento) - Assemblywoman Susan A. Bonilla (D-Concord) held a press conference at the State Capitol with Assemblymember Jimmy Gomez (D-Los Angeles), Assemblymember Chris Holden (D-Pasadena) and the League of California Cities to announce the introduction of their major reform measure, Assembly Bill 1147, to overhaul California's existing massage therapy law. "Clearly the current regulatory system for massage therapy businesses in California is not effective," said Assemblywoman Bonilla. "Bad actors, masquerading as legitimate massage professionals, have exploited loopholes in current law which impairs the ability of local government and law enforcement to regulate them."
