Newly Elected Legislators to Be Sworn in Today

Today, weeks after the election and several hotly contested races, 39 freshmen lawmakers will be sworn in for the 2013-14 legislative session. Today’s proceeding will also include organizational issues including leadership election, rules adoption and the general organization of both houses. The 2013-14 session will begin in January.

League to Host Free SB 1186 Implementation Webinar

On Dec. 13, the League will host a free webinar for members and League partners on SB 1186 (Steinberg and Dutton) implementation. Among other things, SB 1186 requires cities to collect an additional $1 fee for a local business license, equivalent instrument or permit beginning Jan. 1, 2013.

New California Representatives Serving on National League of Cities Board

On Dec. 1, the National League of Cities (NLC) announced it had elected its 2013 leadership including three new board members from California.
