Two Days Remain for Gov. Jerry Brown to Take Action on Bills

This Sunday, Sept. 30 is the deadline for Gov. Jerry Brown to take action on the bills passed by the Legislature and sent to his desk at the end of August.  The League is still awaiting action on some significant legislation and will report next week on the final status of all of the bills for which the League made signature and veto requests.

Recently Signed Same-Day Voter Registration Law Will Not Affect 2012 Election

Legislation Tied to VoteCal Database Certification

This week Gov. Jerry Brown signed AB 1436 (Feuer), which allows for same-day voter registration. The Governor also signed a number of other political reform and election-related bills. While the bill will officially be chaptered on Jan. 1, it won’t take effect until the Secretary of State (SOS) is able to certify California’s statewide voter database, VoteCal.

Governor Signs Animal Control Bill SB 1162 Giving Cities More Options in Emergency Situations

Wednesday afternoon, Gov. Jerry Brown signed SB 1162 (Runner). The bill authorizes animal control officers to administer a tranquilizer to subdue a wild or dangerous animal in an emergency situation, provided that the officer has received training and approval from their authorizing agency.

Cal/EPA Seeks Input on Draft Environmental Health Screen Tool

On July 30, Cal/EPA released a draft of its California Communities Environmental Health Screening (CalEnviroScreen) Tool and is continuing to seek public input. A workshop to discuss how this tool will be helpful to local government is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 2 from 2 – 4 p.m. at the Cal/EPA building and webcast.
