Defeat AB 155. AB 155 would impose unreasonable restrictions on local government. More than 200 local agencies oppose the bill. Call your Senator today and ask for a "no" vote. The League has also prepared a sample veto letter cities can use to write the Governor to urge him to veto AB 155. To access the letter, visit the League's website and type in "AB 155" to the search function.

Oppose Fee Increases. Cities are encouraged to send opposition letters to express their concerns over proposals which would increase fees for red light camera operation and parking citations. A red light camera fee sample letter and talking points as well as a parking citation sample letter and talking points are available on the League's website. Protect your TOT revenues. City officials are encouraged to review the city-by-city list of TOT revenues as a percentage of general fund revenues and send letters to your Senator, Assembly Member and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger urging opposition to any legislation that would undermine the collection of local TOT. A sample opposition letter is available. Read City Advocate Weekly for more.

Tell Your City's Story. City officials are encouraged to issue press releases detailing the devastating impacts of the state's raid on redevelopment funds. The League has posted a sample news release for cities to use. Read the May 7 and May 14 City Advocate Weekly stories for more.

Send an Opposition Letter

  • AB 155. This bill undermines local control and it is imperative that as many cities as possible submit opposition letters. The League drafted a sample letter for cities to use to communicate with Assembly Member Tony Mendoza, the bill's author. Visit the League's website and type "AB 155" into the search function to access the letter.
  • HR 1521 and S 1192. The League encourages cities to contact their congressional representative on these bills. Read the League's letter and then send your own using our sample HR 1521 opposition letter. Sample S 1192 opposition letters for Sen. Boxer and Sen. Feinstein can also be found on the League's Web site.
  • SBX 6 2. City officials are urged to send a letter of opposition for SBX6 2 to the bill's author with copies to their state senator's capitol office. Find the sample opposition letter on the League's bill search. Type "SBX6 2" into the search function to pull up the letter.

Help Support the League's efforts to secure full funding of $2 billion annually for the EECBG program. Contact your congressional representative and ask them to include funding for EECBG. Please give examples of the types of local energy efficiency projects your city is developing and will implement should funding be made available. Review Senate legislative committee compositions and indentify the committee positions held by senators in your region. This information is especially useful when the League asks city officials to contact legislators on specific legislation of importance to cities.
