Member Resources The League offers a variety of resources and tools through our 16 Regional Divisions, 11 Professional Departments, the Institute for Local Government, Library and Range Riders Program. Our 16 Regional Divisions cover every corner of California function as the League's primary advocacy organizations. City officials work very closely with the League's regional public affairs managers, to develop regional information programs and carry out grassroots activities to support specific legislative, regulatory, or ballot measure goals. Divisions also participate in policy development by appointing representatives to the League's board of directors, resolutions and policy committees. Functioning as professional societies with educational and networking events, the League's Professional Departments form policies and programs, and receive staff support from the League's policy analysts. The departments conduct their own professional conferences annually and help plan the League's annual conference program. They also help develop League policies and legislative positions by appointing departmental members to the League's policy committees, board of directors and resolutions committees. The Institute for Local Government (ILG) is the research and education affliliate of the California State Association of Counties and the League of California Cities. The League's Library and inquiry service also collects ordinances, staff reports, surveys, conference papers, periodicals and League publications on many topics affecting cities. The Range Rider Program serves to make the counsel, experience and support of respected retired City Managers available to active local government Managers and Administrators. The program is designed specifically to provide help to the practitioners with personal and professional problems and perplexing concerns that may be plaguing them. The program serves as an additional two-way communication channel to and from the League of California Cities and the International City/County Management Association (ICMA). The program is designed to supplement, not to take the place of, normal regular contacts between Managers and the League and ICMA. last updated : 4/28/2010 |
