Gov. Jerry Brown released his revised FY 2012-13 Budget today, reflecting an increased deficit of $15.7 billion, up from his January projection of $9.2 billion. The budget shortfall is attributed to overly optimistic revenue forecasts, increased Proposition 98 spending and federal court rulings blocking several budget cuts.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) announced changes are underway to address population management, staffing, and facilities use in light of the new realities resulting from realignment.

On Thursday, the League hosted a webinar with the High Speed Rail Authority (HSRA) on the 2012 Business Plan. Participants heard first hand from the HSRA on how this plan differs from previous ones. The new plan uses conservative ridership and revenue estimates, assumes three percent inflation, and plans for a phased implementation and blended operations.
