The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) this week announced grant funds to be awarded to projects with significant impact on the nation, a metropolitan area, or a region. Last week, Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) filed cloture on the motion to proceed to a vote on S. 743, the most recent of three Marketplace Fairness Act bills introduced by Congress this year. Sen. Reid’s action made the bill eligible to be heard on the Senate floor this week.

Earlier today, the CalPERS Board of Administration voted to make significant changes to actuarial policies, increasing the rate that state and local government employers pay for their pension plans.
