Originally released on April 18, the League’s 2013 Hot Bills List has been updated to reflect the most current status of bills of most importance to cities. Several bills have been removed from the original list because they are not expected to move this year. Several bills have been added to the list. The list below is to date as of May 8, 2013.
April 18, 2013
Today the League has released the list of 26 “Hot Bills” for 2013 that reflects positions on these bills as of April 18.

On April 4–5, the League’s eight standing policy committees met in Pasadena.

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has opened its application process for its Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Bureau of Justice Implementation Program (BJA) for FY 2013.
March 13, 2013
The Senate Industrial Relations Committee passed SB 7 (Steinberg) this morning, sending it to the Senate Appropriations Committee.

The League is currently reviewing hundreds of this year’s regular session bills and evaluating their potential implications for local government agencies.

To accelerate desired development projects and the public improvements needed to support them, developers may finance impact fees and public improvement costs associated with their projects using tax-exempt bonds.

Hundreds of city officials from across the state converged in Sacramento Jan. 17-18 for the first policy committee meetings of 2013. The League’s policy making process relies on the participation of a diverse group of city officials from across the state.

On Nov. 13, via webinar, and on Nov. 14, in Riverside, the League held its Annual Legislative Briefings. The presentations focused on the state budget and key developments from the 2011-12 legislative year.

On Sept. 30 Gov. Jerry Brown completed action on bills for the 2011-12 legislative session. The Governor in the end was consistent with 72.4 percent of the League’s 29 signature and veto requests.
September 14, 2012
On Monday, Sept. 4, following the final night of the 2011-12 legislative session on Friday, Aug. 30, the League published a comprehensive list of bills of interest to cities which were passed by the Legislature and sent to Gov. Jerry Brown for action. City officials are still encouraged to immediately send request for signature or veto letters as indicated below, as the Governor could take action at any time before his Sept. 30 deadline.

This year the League has been tracking a number of major bills which affect cities as reflected in its updated Aug. 10 Major Bills List. This week, the League also published a list of gut and amends that affect cities. The following actions have occurred for the bills the League is tracking.

On Aug. 2 – 3 the U.S. Department of Energy’s Municipal Solid-State Street Lighting (MSSL) Consortium and the city of Boston will host an LED Street Lighting Workshop. The workshop is open to city officials, utility officials, consultants and energy efficiency organizations.
