Hundreds of City Officials in Sacramento Jan. 17–19 for Education and Advocacy

New Mayors and Council Members Academy Training for Newly Elected City Officials Followed by First League Policy Committee Meetings of 2018

January 11, 2018
The New Mayors and Council Members Academy, Jan. 17–19, will bring together recently elected California city officials for education on the fundamentals of serving on the city council with sessions focused on governance, municipal finance, land use policy, advocacy on city issues, new social media platforms, and AB 1234 ethics training.

The League’s seven standing policy committees will hold their first meetings of the year Jan. 18–19 at the Sacramento Convention Center and the League offices. These committees discuss and debate issues affecting California cities and make recommendations to the League Board of Directors on policy positions, which form the basis of the League’s advocacy in the state legislature.

This year, the committees will consider a wide range of issues important to cities including public safety, retirement system sustainability, protection of existing transportation funds, housing affordability and resources to address homelessness crisis.
