Wednesday, March 22: How the Highway Safety Improvement Program Can Work For You

The Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) provides significant funding to local agencies for safety improvements. This session’s panel will cover the HSIP committee including priorities, recent history of the program, the five new Safety Performance Measures and target setting that is required by the states. Find out what changes have happened in the types of projects funded plus how large and small cities and counties are using this program in their jurisdictions. Learn how to provide input to the committee to improve your ability to compete for these funds.

Thursday, March 23: Delivering California’s First Diverging Diamond Interchange

The city of Manteca is about to embark on the state’s first Diverging Diamond interchange. Come to this session to hear about Manteca’s process and budget evaluation that led staff to go with this type of interchange. The panel will talk about how city staff went with this approach after learning that a partial cloverleaf configuration would exceed their available construction funding. Working with Caltrans, the city gained approval for the new interchange type that not only fits the budget, but allowed Manteca to develop a project that provides capacity and safety for all travel modes.

Plus, don’t miss the always popular networking reception following sessions on Wednesday, March 22, where attendees can connect with old friends, enjoy delicious hors d'oeuvres, and meet with exhibitors showcasing products and services important to the public works and engineering industries.
