League Submits Comments for the Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities Program

October 31, 2014
The League participated in submitting comments on the Strategic Growth Council’s (SCG) draft guidelines for the Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities Program.

The League appreciates the work of SGC to move quickly in putting together this program and supports the investment in the communities to balance the needs of a growing population and the environment.  The AHSC Program provides an opportunity for targeted and meaningful investment.

While the League supports the intent of the program, it will continue to work with the SGC and other stakeholders to ensure that the money reaches those intended to benefit from the funds, the money is allocated in an efficient manner, and the grant application criteria is based upon the goals of the program.

The AHSC Program was recently created in the FY 2014-15 agreement between Gov. Jerry Brown and the Legislature. Cap-and-Trade auction revenues will provide $130 million in FY 2014-15 and 20 percent of auction revenues in future years. The program is designed to support the provision of affordable housing and infrastructure that will result in a reduction of greenhouse gas emission.
