League Offering Oil-by-Rail Safety Webinar Series

October 7, 2014
The League of California Cities is hosting a series of webinars for local elected leaders, public safety officials and interested city staff about the increasing transport of crude oil by rail.
The first webinar will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Oct 15. It will touch briefly on federal law in this area, and then address the extent of state and local authority to regulate — including local land-use authority in regard to railroads. It will also cover a recent state resolution, to assist cities in advocating before their Congressional representatives on issues the Legislature has identified that require action.
The second webinar (time and date will be announced during the week of Oct. 19) will provide a detailed review of federal law, relevant agencies and developments on improving safety at the federal level.
The third event (time and date will be announced during the week of Nov. 2) will be a webinar or conference call to strategize on local and regional advocacy, and share any progress that has been made in regard to advocacy and federal action.
The first webinar is free for League members and partners; $100 for non-members.
Please register online no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 13. Webinar log-in information and background materials will be sent Oct. 14.
For registration questions, please contact Megan Dunn. For all other questions related to oil-by-rail, contact Tim Cromartie.
