CPUC Announces Public Workshops to Discuss New Broadband Access in Public Housing Comments

February 26, 2014
The California Public Utilities Commission announced workshop dates to discuss public comments received relating to the implementation of AB 1299. Signed by Gov. Jerry Brown in October 2013, AB 1299 brings broadband Internet access to affordable multifamily housing by diverting $20 million from the California Advanced Services Fund (CASF) Infrastructure Account and $5 million from the CASF Loan Account into a newly created Broadband Public Housing Account (BPHA).

On Jan. 17, 2014, President Michael Peevey, the assigned commissioner, released a scoping memo soliciting comments on 39 questions involved with implementing AB 1299. The comments received by the commission are available online.

As part of the process of implementing AB 1299, CPUC staff will hold the following four public workshops to discuss these comments and other issues related to developing rules and guidelines for the new CASF Public Housing Program.
