League Releases Initial Bills of Interest for 2013

League Sponsors Bill to Provide More Financial Certainty for Successor Agencies Receiving a “Finding of Completion”

This week, the League issued a support letter on AB 564 (Mullin), which provides certainty to successor agencies and all other public and private entities that benefits offered by a finding of completion from the Department of Finance (DOF) can be relied upon.

Interested In Serving on The League Board of Directors?

The League of California Cities is now accepting nominations from elected officials interested in serving in one of six at-large board positions (two-year term), or as second vice president (one-year term). All nominees for second vice president must currently be serving or have previously served on the board of directors.

2012 Local Streets and Roads Needs Assessment Released

A biennial report released Tuesday by the League, the California State Association of Counties and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission finds a significant level of deterioration of California’s local streets and roads.

Yesterday, the League issued an oppose letter on SB 7 (Steinberg), which seeks to compel charter cities to require prevailing wages on projects they construct with local funds on local projects by withholding all state contracting funds from non-compliant cities.

On Thursday, Moody’s Investors Service announced that for the next 90 days it will review its 2012 downgrade decisions for tax allocation bonds and possibly rescind the ratings due to insufficient information.

Board of Equalization Approves Fuel Tax Swap Increase

The Board of Equalization (BOE) has approved an increase on the excise tax rate on motor vehicle fuel from 36 cents per gallon to 39.5 cents per gallon. The sales and use tax on diesel fuel will remain the same.

League Submits Comments on CalEPA’s Environmental Health Screening Tool, Final Version to Be Released in March

For many months, the League has been actively involved in a number of meetings regarding the development of the California Environmental Protection Agency’s (CalEPA) new environmental health screening tool, CalEnviroScreen. On Tuesday, the League took support positions on two constitutional amendments, SCA 10 (Wolk) and ACA 4 (Olsen) that would improve legislative transparency by requiring all bills to be in print and available on the Internet for at least 72 hours prior to a vote on its final passage in either house.
