Bills in Committee: April 1–5

Since Gov. Jerry Brown signed ABx1 26 on June 28, 2011, 81 lawsuits have been filed in Sacramento County Superior Court related to this statute and the later-enacted statute, AB 1484 (2012).

League Opposes SB 673, a Bill That Would Limit Local Economic Development Flexibility

The League has taken an oppose position on SB 673 (DeSaulnier), a bill that would prohibit the approval of any retail or commercial facility estimated to receive more than $1 million in subsidies unless a comprehensive analysis is prepared by the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research (OPR) or a public agency or private entity under contract with OPR.

State Superior Court in Sacramento Decides for State in VLF Diversion Lawsuit

The League was disappointed to learn that Sacramento County Superior Court Judge Lloyd Connelly issued an opinion on Monday, March 18, denying the League’s petition challenging the constitutionality of the Legislature’s 2011 decision to fund the criminal justice realignment program in part with vehicle license fee (VLF) revenues.
