Bills in Committee: June 17–June 21

June 17, 2013
Assembly members returned to the Capitol on Saturday, June 15 to wrap up action on the remaining budget trailer bills and complete their work while allowing bills to be in print at least 24 hours.
The Assembly also passed and sent to the Senate ACA 8 (Blumenfield), a League-supported 55 percent lower vote threshold bill for issuing bonded indebtedness to fund infrastructure. The League issued analysis on the budget trailer bills late Friday afternoon. For details, please see "BUDGET UPDATE: Legislature Holds Rare Saturday Session to Meet June 15 Deadline," CA Cities Advocate, June 17, 2013.
With budget negotiations successfully concluded, members return to policy committee hearings for the next few weeks. Two League “Hot Bills” are scheduled for hearing on Tuesday morning in the Assembly Public Safety Committee: SB 313 (De León) and SB 439 (Steinberg). The Senate Governance and Finance Committee on Wednesday will hear two other “Hot Bills,” AB 1080 (Alejo) and SB 56 (Roth).
A full listing of all Senate and Assembly hearings is available online. Hearing times are subject to change. The League will report any actions of significance.
Bill language and any available position letters can be found on the League’s website by typing the bill number into the search box.
