On Nov. 13, via webinar, and on Nov. 14, in Riverside, the League held its Annual Legislative Briefings. The presentations focused on the state budget and key developments from the 2011-12 legislative year.

Gov. Jerry Brown has until Sept. 30 to take action on hundreds of bills passed by the Legislature and sent to his desk. On Sept. 4, the League published a comprehensive list of bills of interest to cities and on Sept. 14 published subsequent actions taken by the Governor.

The League has requested that the Governor veto AB 1616 (Gatto), which would require cities to issue permits to “cottage food operations” that operate out of a residence and deem them to be a permitted use of residential property for local zoning, building, and fire codes. Cities are encouraged to also send veto request letters immediately.

Today, both the Senate and the Assembly completed work on the remaining FY 2012-13 Budget Trailer bills, which will complete the budget package awaiting Gov. Jerry Brown’s review.

U.S. Communities has announced that Acro Service Corporation has been awarded the U.S. Communities temporary staff solutions contract through a competitive solicitation process conducted by Maricopa County, Ariz. U.S. Communities is the national purchasing cooperative sponsored by the League of California Cities.
