The registration and housing deadline for the League’s 2013 City Managers’ Department meeting in San Francisco is Jan. 8, 2012. The meeting is being held Jan. 30 – Feb. 1, 2013.

Since 2005, as required by AB 1234, public officials are required to attend ethics training. Public officials are required to complete the training within one year of taking office, and repeat the training every two years. The Institute for Local Government (ILG) is offering a session at the Association of Bay Area Governments' (ABAG) 2012 Ethics Training Workshop on Dec. 20 in Oakland.

The League’s 2013 Annual Conference & Expo will be held Sept. 18–20 in Sacramento. The League is currently accepting session ideas through its website. Submissions must include: a title (up to 10 words), description (100 words) and suggested speaker(s). The submission deadline for session ideas is Jan. 7, 2013.

On Dec. 13, the League will host a free webinar for members and League partners on SB 1186 (Steinberg and Dutton) implementation. Among other things, SB 1186 requires cities to collect an additional $1 fee for a local business license, equivalent instrument or permit beginning Jan. 1, 2013.

Today the State Water Board has released the draft Phase II Small MS4 general permit for a 30-day public comment period. The comment period will end on Dec. 17.

The League is offering its annual Legislative Briefings on Nov. 13 from 10-11:30 a.m. via webinar and on Nov. 14 in Riverside from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. The deadline to register for these meetings is Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 5 p.m.

Yesterday, the League Strategic Initiatives Task Force met for the first time at the League offices to consider a variety of policy and advocacy alternatives the organization could discuss with its membership over the next few months in order to secure a greater measure of home rule in the future.
