This bill would allow local governments to reduce its share of the regional housing need by the number of housing units built between the start of the projection period and the deadline for adoption of the housing element. The bill goes next to the Assembly floor for a vote.
The League has a long standing history of supporting legislation that makes the internal policies of a department consistent with the statutes. The Assembly Local Government Committee unanimously supported AB 2308 on May 2 when the League testified on behalf of it.
This bill would bring more consistency and certainty to the housing element process which local governments greatly appreciate.
City officials are encouraged to send support letters. A sample letter is available on the League’s website by typing “AB 2308” into the search box.
