The meeting was the first of a series and introduced the draft report, as required by AB 341 (Chesbro, 2011). The draft report provides strategies for achieving the statewide goal that 75 percent of the solid waste generated be source reduced, recycled or composted by 2020.
CalRecycle Director Caroll Mortenson commented during the workshop that the draft report should be viewed as a “jumping off point” and is intended to bring focus to the ongoing discussions. She also noted that at this point it is premature to consider these ideas as recommendations or policy perspectives of either the department or the Administration.
A copy of the draft report, along with detailed information and a comment form are available on the CalRecycle website. The next workshop is scheduled for May 21, from 1 – 4 p.m. at the South Coast Air Quality Management District Auditorium in Diamond Bar.
