League Supports Redevelopment Dissolution Clean Up Bill, AB 1585

Hearing in Assembly Housing Committee on Wednesday, March 14

March 13, 2012
AB 1585 (Pérez), which seeks to clean up certain provisions of the redevelopment dissolution bill AB 1x 26, and includes an urgency clause, will be heard Wednesday, March 14 in the Assembly Housing and Community Development Committee. For more background on AB 1585, please see the Feb. 7 CA Cities Advocate article " Speaker Pérez Introduces Redevelopment Cleanup Bill AB 1585."

The League and the California Redevelopment Association (CRA) recently adopted support positions on AB 1585 after the author took a variety of amendments to the measure on March 8 that clarified and improved a number of provisions in the law of concern to successor agencies. The League and CRA will continue to work with the author to identify other possible clarifications to the bill as it moves along.

While AB 1585 contains numerous helpful provisions, many issues associated with the dissolution of redevelopment agencies remain outstanding. The League and CRA will continue to work with the author and other legislators to achieve additional clean up and continue to develop alternative tools that can assist local agencies.

The League's support letter can be accessed on the League's website by typing "AB 1585" into the search box. A copy of the committee analysis can be found on the League's website.
