Joint Assembly Committee Hearing on Land Use and Community Development Scheduled for March 7

March 5, 2012
The Assembly Local Government and Housing and Community Development committees have scheduled a joint oversight hearing to discuss "Land Use and Community Development: What Tools Will Work in the Post-Redevelopment Era?"

The hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, March 7 at 10:30 a.m. in State Capitol Room 4202. League Fiscal Policy Advisor Michael Coleman will testify on behalf of the League and will provide an overview on various economic development tools available to cities post-redevelopment.

On Feb. 22, the Senate held a similar joint hearing between the Governance and Finance and Transportation and Housing committees where League First Vice President and Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard testified on behalf of the League. For more please see the Feb. 22 CA Cities Advocate story " Senate Committees Hear Options for Economic Development on Same Day as League's Economic Development Task Force Starts Meeting."

The League has been actively participating in exploring new economic development tools by testifying at legislative hearings and working with its new economic development task force.

The task force is focused on AB 1x 26 cleanup, the legal, technical and policy challenges with the dissolution of redevelopment, other possible tools and strategies for economic development, and policy questions surrounding the dissolution of redevelopment agencies and future tools. The task force's next meeting has been scheduled for March 21, with a subcommittee meeting on March 8.
