Yesterday, both the Senate and Assembly voted to pass AB 1484, the FY 2012-13 redevelopment trailer bill. The 73-page bill was not in print until Tuesday morning and the bill was voted on Wednesday.
During Tuesday evening’s Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Committee, the League testified against harmful provisions in the bill and by Wednesday morning had provided the Legislature with a set a amendments to address those concerns, including provisions that clearly violate the state constitution by diverting city sales and property tax as a penalty for noncompliance with the requirements of the bill. Ultimately, AB 1484 was passed in both the Senate (21-18) and Assembly (48-25).

The League wishes to thank the legislators who spoke out against the bill in committee and on the floor including Sen. Robert Dutton (R-Inland Empire), Sen. Bill Emmerson (R-Riverside), Sen. Alan Lowenthal (D-Long Beach), and Sen. Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar) and all of the legislators who voted no or abstained from voting on this bill in order to secure consideration of the League’s amendments.
City officials are encouraged to review this list and to also thank legislators that voted no or abstained.
