Program
Exciting speakers, including Richard Thompson Ford, a George E. Osborne Professor of Law at Stanford, and instructor of local government law, as well as other practitioners and academics, will be participating in the event.
The speakers will present four panels:

Extreme Solutions: Reducing the Scope of Local Government. This panel will include discussions of privatization efforts in several jurisdictions.

Entrepreneurial Cities: Reinventing Government or Disenfranchising Citizens. This panel will explore such matters as contracting out, making public facilities and services self-sustaining, and public-private partnerships.

Pensions and the Role of Employee Unions. This panel will include a discussion of avoiding public pension obligations through bankruptcy, as well as the perspective of public safety unions.

Stimulating the Local Economy: At What Cost? This panel will explore local hiring preferences, as well as a discussion of development incentives.

Registration
Keeping in mind that most cities and agencies are experiencing financial constraints, costs for this program have been kept as low as possible. Registration is available online.
Regular registration costs $150 and just $100 for in-house government attorneys. Please register in advance as the fee for on-site registration will increase to $175.
