New Mayors and Council Members Academy and Legislative Reception
Newly elected and veteran city officials from across the state attending the New Mayors and Council Members Academy will learn about the duties and responsibilities of their office and have the chance to network with their peers.
As part of the academy, attendees are invited to join League staff, legislators, state officials, League Partners and other association representatives at the League's Legislative Reception on Jan. 18 from 6 - 7:15 p.m. Policy Committee members are also invited to attend the reception and should RSVP to Emily Cole.
Policy Committee Meetings
The League's policy-making process depends on the engagement of our city officials. Policy committee members discuss and debate the major issues facing California cities and shape organizational policies to address those issues.
Each year, close to 400 city officials serve on the League's policy committees which meet up to four times annually, typically in January, April, June and September. Meetings alternate between Northern and Southern California with half the committees meeting on a Thursday, and the other half meeting on a Friday.
Prior to scheduled meetings on both Thursday and Friday, a main briefing will take place on the recent redevelopment ruling, Gov. Jerry Brown's proposed FY 2012-13 budget and emerging federal issues. The main briefing will begin at 10 a.m. at the Sacramento Convention Center.
