League Forms New Task Force To Explore New Community and Economic Development Tools

February 17, 2012
Last week during its meeting, the League's board of directors approved the creation of a new task force charged with recommending to the board new community and economic development tools following the dissolution of redevelopment. In addition to recommending new tools, the task force will also provide guidance to the League's legislative team for broader policy discussions with the Legislature in the future. The task force will hold its first meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 22.

The task force will be chaired by League First Vice President and Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard and vice chaired by League Second Vice President and San Francisco Treasurer Jose Cisneros. Cisneros is also the chair of the League's Revenue and Taxation policy committee. The task force membership will be comprised of representatives from the League's board, policy committees, professional departments, and divisions as well as representatives from the California Redevelopment Association.

Also on Feb. 22, the Senate Governance and Finance and Transportation and Housing Committees will hold a joint informational hearing to discuss affordable housing and economic development. The draft agenda and briefing paper for the Senate hearing have been posted online. Mayor Bogaard is scheduled to testify at the Senate hearing on behalf of the League.
