Governor Signs Legislation Disqualifying Public Employees Convicted of Felony Counts

On July 9, Gov. Jerry Brown signed AB 1654 (Cook) into law. The bill disqualifies any person convicted of a felony involving accepting, giving, or offering bribes, embezzlement of public money, extortion or theft of public money, perjury, or conspiracy to commit any of those crimes, from serving in public office.

This week, Gov. Jerry Brown signed two League-supported bills, SB 1351 (Rubio) and SB 1436 (Lowenthal), having important public safety impacts for our cities.

CDCR Achieves Second Benchmark in Population Reduction Two Months Early

According to its July status report, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) met its July 2012 benchmark for reducing the state’s inmate population set forth by the three-judge panel.
