League of California Cities® Commends Legislative Leadership and Governor for Providing Funding to Help House Chronically Homeless

Governor Signed Final Piece of Proposal on Wednesday

The League of California Cities® on Thursday commended the bipartisan leadership of legislators and Gov. Jerry Brown for their support of the No Place Like Home initiative. Governor Brown signed AB 1628 on Sept. 13 to help implement the bond financing of the proposal, contained in AB 1618 approved as part of the budget, that provides $2 billion in funding to help mentally ill homeless men, women and children secure needed housing and services.

Governor Signs More Climate Change Bills and $900 Million Cap-and-Trade Expenditure Plan

In an effort to assist communities most impacted by pollution and climate change, Gov. Jerry Brown signed additional bills to implement and allocate $900 million in Cap-and-Trade auction proceeds. This is the first meaningful discretionary spending of Cap-and-Trade auction proceeds in nearly two years.

$5 Million in CDBG Grant Funding Available to Address Effects of California Drought

The Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) announced the availability of approximately $5 in federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program funding for direct relief and mitigation of the effects of the California drought disaster.

City Strategies to Reach the Remaining Uninsured Webcast Will be Held Sept. 20

Over the last three years, the National League of Cities’ (NLC) Institute for Youth, Education, and Families has been working with eight cities to develop and implement successful outreach and enrollment campaigns to connect uninsured children and families to much-needed health insurance coverage. NLC is hosting an interactive discussion on Sept. 20 with national and local experts from across the country to discuss the important role cities can play in reaching the remaining uninsured.
